POST OFFICE STAMPS DEMONSTRATE TAXI SIGNS
Tshwane. - The South African Post Office today announced a set of stamps depicting hand signs to hail taxis, which can also be read by blind commuters. The stamps are valid postage for standard letters (R2,25) and are available in a set of ten costing R22,50. Taxi hand signs have been dubbed South Africa’s “12th official language”. Millions of South African commuters use this unspoken, unwritten language every day to communicate to taxi drivers where they want to go. Developed and adapted over the years, these hand signs are unique to South Africa. Each hand sign indicates a specific route. Current information documented covers 80% of taxi routes with, currently, 28 major hand signs for the Gauteng area alone. The intention is to eventually also cover the rest of South Africa.

POST OFFICE ANNUAL REPORT TOP OF STATE-OWNED ENTERPRISES
Johannesburg. - The South African Post Office’s annual report was named the winner in the category ‘State owned and non-listed entities’ in the Chartered Secretaries and JSE Annual Awards for Company Reporting in Johannesburg on 12 November 2009. Motshoanetsi Lefoka, the South African Post Office Group CEO, said in comment that the achievement confirms the company’s commitment to good corporate governance and to triple bottom line reporting.

THE SOUTH AFRICAN POST OFFICE HONOURS PRESIDENT ZUMA WITH A STAMP
Tshwane - The Post Office honours all South African Presidents with a stamp, and in terms of its stamp policy, heads of state and former heads of state are the only living people to be featured on stamps. The artwork of the stamp celebrating President Zuma features a photograph of the President and the Presidential Coat of Arms, used on the stamp by special permission from the Presidency. The stamp was designed by Thea Clemons, the Post Office’s in-house design artist.
