Types of permit impression

Standard permit impressions
Standard impressions must be preprinted in each item's right-hand corner. The impression must not be smaller than 25 mm in width and 45 mm in length or larger than 45 mm in width and 74 mm in length.

Note
The maximum and minimum specifications set should be adhered to strictly so that Permit Mail insignia can be clearly identified by all Post Office employees.

Uniformity
Too many variations caused confusion with the prepaid and postage-paid insignia. The following is important:
  • Permit impressions must contain the official Post Office flying envelope trademark in the designated position.
  • The trademark may be printed in black or a dark/bold colour may be used with the approval of the regional sales managers.
  • The wording "Permit Mail" must be printed in Univers Bold 17 point.
  • The wording "South Africa" must be printed in Univers 12 point.
  • The permit number must be printed in Univers 9 point.
  • Permit impressions may only be printed by envelope manufacturers, ie no rubber stamps. This is for control purposes.
