Introduction for Domestic letter service

Background:
The national bulk mail service is the most practical service for businesses that post large quantities of domestic letters.This service offers discounts for its clients if the mail is presented according to the Post Office's criteria detailed in this document.

Scope:
The domestic bulk mail service applies to mail posted in South Africa and intended for delivery in:
  • South Africa
  • Foreign countries

    Exception:
    No discounts are granted on mail to foreign countries.


Electronic BulkMail DeliveryNote (eBDN):
"eBDN" means the capturing of bulk mail related information and the placing of an electronic order by the South African Post Office's customers on the electronic bulkmail delivery note system provided by the South African Post Office to its customers.Note: The grading certificate of 97 to 100 per cent correctness of addresses ((minimum 1 000 per consignment) still apply as in BDNFor details and guidelines on how to complete the electronic bulk mail delivery note, refer to the annexures to this document under the heading "Completing the electronic bulk mail delivery note."

Mail streams:
The Post Office uses ordinary mail, Fastmail, parcel and Speed Services Couriers mail streams, each with their own set of delivery standards.
