What is Permit Mail?
- Permit mail is the easy way to send a 100 items or more at a time for delivery both within South Africa and overseas, without licking 100s of stamps or spending hours at a Franking Machine. The minimum of 1000 items only applies to Bulk Mail for which rebates are being claimed (applicable only to customers with graded databases)
Permit mail is the alternative to the postage-paid system. It comprises
- a permit insignia which is registered in the Post Office's name;
- a permit number which can be traced back to the client;
- the wording "South Africa"; and
- the official Post Office trademark.
Electronic Bulk Mail Delivery Note
- Account Customers must lodge Permit Mail with Official Lodgement documentation i.e. a ELECTRONIC BULK MAIL DELIVERY NOTE(eBDN) and may not be accepted without this documentations.
- Permit Mail is available to cash customers and each Region has unique range of Permit Mail numbers issued to regular bulk mailers.
Important
- Cash customers with unique Permit numbers usually lodged their mails at Post Offices, Postlink issued two receipts, one copy accompny the mail to the mail centre to prove payment when the mail is checked by the Revenue Protection and the other one is given to the customer
- Cash customer lodging mail at the Post Offices may not necessary have a eBDN document as the customer may not be a Post Office account holder
- The two receipts issued by Postlink represent counter BDN, which is issued by mail, centres for cash customers.
