Plastic film
The plastic film for postal covers must be manufactured entirely from polyethylene or polypropylene film.


Mass and thickness
The following applies:
Maximum mass to be carried in cover Basic thickness of film (minimum)
0 g to 500 g 25 microns
501 g to 2 000 g 30 microns

These thicknesses must be the average thickness with a minus 10 per cent tolerance.


Weld strength
Where welding is used in the construction of the cover, such welds must be sufficient to prevent opening during transit.


Printing
Plastic film may be printed or plain.


Unprinted film
  • Envelopes must be provided with top sheets with an address area of 50 mm x 100 mm.
  • The top sheet must also bear the wording Postage paid/Posgeld betaal and a return address.
  • The size of the top sheet must match the size of the content unless it is firmly located in the same position to prevent movement inside the envelope.

Printed film
An address area comprising a write-on surface no smaller than 50 mm x 100 mm must bear the wording Postage paid/Posgeld betaal in the right-hand corner.


Film manufacturer
The Post Office requires the film manufacturer's mark on the film and the mailing originator's details on the preprinted top sheets.
