Small (DL) maxi rate will not be charged, but the Medium (B5) or Large (B4) rate will be charged for these postal articles (depending on the thickness of the article). |
Mass steps
Mass steps only apply to clients (mailing houses included) who currently hold an agreement with the South African Post Office.
Postage rebate
Postage rebate is calculated according to envelope size.

He must have his database or mailing list graded. The certificate issued must accompany the consignment if rebates are claimed and after that, the grading (ie 97 - 100%) and certificate number must be indicated on the electronic bulk mail delivery note eBDN. |
Advertising/ Magmail/Addressed promotional mail rebates
The criterion for rebates on advertising mail, Magmail and Addressed promotional mail is 1 000 or more articles of the same category.
For example:
| A consignment contains 500 Medium (B5) and 500 Large (B4) advertising, Addressed promotional mail or Magmail items |
The client -
does not qualify for rebates on such a consignment; and
must pay the rate for the different categories. |
Presorted criteria
The following criteria apply:
- The minimum volume per consignment is 1 000 items.
- Addresscheck scale 97 - 100 per cent. Only grading certificates with 97 - 100 per cent correctness of addresses will be accepted.
- The database or address list must be rechecked every six months, but this may be done more frequently should the Post Office deem it necessary. Clients who have 10 000 or fewer records only need to have their database or address lists checked once a year.
- Rebates are only applicable if one of the following payment methods is used: Permit Mail, postage-included and remote meter-setting franking machine mail. Envelopes with stamps on do not qualify for any rebates.
- Rebates and discounts are paid only to clients graded 97 - 100 per cent.
- Presorting rebates are granted on direct tray, direct bundle sorting and optical character reader (OCR) mail
- Rebates are subject to operational change.
- Posting and sorting criteria must be met.
