Services offered:
The Post Office offers the following value-added services:
  • Registered letter (with an insurance option)
  • Business Reply Service (BRS)



Definition of registered letter:
A registered letter (with an insurance option) is a service by which letters containing stocks or monetary and/or important documents or articles of intrinsic value can be sent and which makes provision for the sender to insure them for a specific monetary amount and receive compensation in the event of loss.


Other services:
The registered letter with an insurance option cannot be sent by the Fastmail or as a parcel.


Features:
The following is a summary of the features of the registered letter (with an insurance option):
  • Basic insurance up to R100 is included in the service fee.
  • Optional insurance above R100 up to R2 000 is available on payment of the applicable insurance fee. This applies to domestic registered letters only.
  • Registered letters may be handed in at post office counters only.
  • An acceptance receipt (A slip) with full address particulars is automatically issued.
  • Each letter is individually handled (by means of security transfer) when it is handed in, accepted and handled through the system.
  • Letters are monitored by Track and Trace from acceptance to delivery where the system is available.
  • An 0860 111 502 telephone number is available for Track and Trace enquiries.
  • ID and signature are required on delivery.

Definition of Business Reply Service (BRS):
The Business Reply Service (BRS) is a service that provides for a firm or person to enclose a preprinted envelope or postcard in his correspondence to which replies may be posted in the usual manner but without having his clients paying the postage on the articles. To provide for this, he must apply for a BRS licence number.


Definition of Freepost:
Freepost is a service that provides for a firm or person to enclose a special address in his correspondence to which replies may be posted in the usual manner but without having his clients pay the postage on the articles. To provide for this, he must apply for a Freepost licence number.


Other services:
BRS letters cannot be sent by the registered letter with an insurance option.However, they may be accepted for dispatch by Fastmail. On receipt of these articles, the BRS client must pay the applicable Fastmail postage rate plus the delivery fee.


Features:
The following is a summary of the features of the BRS:
  • An annual licence fee is payable.
  • A handling fee plus the applicable postage on receipt is payable on each article.
  • A deposit equal to the postage plus handling fee of such articles that could accrue over a period of six weeks is payable.
  • The licensee may enclose a specially designed envelope/postcard in his mailing or may simply publish the special address to which his customers may reply.
  • Domestic postage will be paid by the licensee, which may result in a better response to his correspondence.
  • Items are handled through the ordinary or Fastmail mail stream.

Design:
Every BRS envelope/postcard design used by a client must be submitted to the regional sales manager for approval.


Easipost packaging products:
If you wish to send a parcel, gift or documents, enquire at your post office for ready-made boxes, bubble wrap and padded envelopes.

Note
Easipost stationery, boxes, jiffy bags, sealing wax, pens, writing pads, et cetera are available at selected post office counters.
