Window envelopes

Address panels
Transparent address panels of window envelopes must be completely crease-free and the contents must not be able to shift, thereby obscuring the address.The window panels may not be framed in any way.


Dimensions
The left-hand and bottom edges of the window must be 15 mm (+/- 2 mm) from the left-hand and bottom edges, respectively, of the envelope.
The window must be at least 90mm wide, preferably 100 - 120 mm.The window must be at least 35mm high, preferably 60mm.


General
The window must be positioned squarely in relation to the edges of the envelope.
The window material must -
  • overlap the opening adequately;
  • be attached to the inside of the envelope in such a way that it cannot be peeled off without evident material damage; and
  • be gummed down to within 3 mm of the edges of the window opening.

Addresses
Addresses must be -
  • clearly legible through the transparent address panels of window envelopes; and
  • at least 5 mm from the edges of the window.

Nothing should be printed or visible below the postcode.Address particulars may not be framed in any way.


Legibility
Test the legibility as follows:Put the proposed window envelope into a photocopier set to standard (darkness).

If Then
The address on the copy is clearly legible, ie there is no impairment of legibility The optical character reader should be capable of processing the item.
